For those who don’t know what I am talking about, where have you been for the last decade? Katz’z Delicatessen was founded in 1888 and today ranks at one of the best deli’s in the city, particularly famous for its Pastrami. It has also appeared in several films, such as ‘When Harry met Sally’, ‘Donnie Brasco’ and ‘Enchanted’.
High on our agenda today we hit up Katz around 2pm and my god it was heaving. Its not a small venue, but the amount of people wanting to get a piece of the action was awesome to watch. Such a simple system too. Get given a card as you walk in, select your queue (they were all the same) and simply select your sandwich, ranging from beef brisket to the legendary pastrami. I went for the classic Reuben sandwich, Mary chose the Pastrami. At $20 a sandwich, you do take a giant gulp at first, but then you see other sandwiches hitting the counter and you very quickly realise why. These things are epic.
Rather than explaining, I just thought I’d leave you a bunch of photos to show how epic this place is. If you ever visit NYC, you have to go here at lunchtime. Oh, and go there on a reasonably empty stomach otherwise a simple sandwich will destroy you. Sorry Dad, there is nothing here for you!
