What makes a good stay?

Staying the night before. It’s something I have started to do more and more when travelling fairly long distances to play. Certainly saves being tired the next morning and facing a mega long car journey before starting play. Is it worth it?

Normally I would say yes as the hotels are usually fairly good quality and do what they say on the tin. A good nights sleep in a reasonably comfy bed, for a pretty decent price (even when booked late). The most recent however has really made me think about either switched hotel group or possibly knocking it on the head altogether. As you have probably guessed already, its usually been a Travelodge that has provided for all my needs. This time however, the hotel itself was in a terrible state, the staff were really dull and the whole place just had a ‘tired’ feel to it. Not the kind of welcome you’d expect after a long journey.

I’ll certainly think twice about booking with them again, but it definitely won’t put me off continuing to use hotels for long away days. Makes all the difference.
